Life's got to be like a pretty girl's skirt... long enough to cover everything important and short enough to keep things interesting

'There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat, And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose the ventures before us.' - Marcus Brutus; Julius Caesar

I know a world where people are happy. They don't care if tomorrow is coming. The People of this world don't suck on exhaust pipes and wonder if it's the cigarettes that's ruining their health. They don't think about others as much as they think about themselves. Sometimes they take time to ponder over futile questions like Who controls the internet? Is it some kind of huge building filled with unaltered beeping machines that could make insanity sound like a treat? Or is it, just as we are certain, just information passing through cables that go to your house from under the street? For as much as they know of us, we are oblivious to them. Let me tell you the story.
The children of this world do not need to be told not to stick metal scissors into electrical sockets. They are so indifferent to danger that danger ignores them. And as these children grow to men and women they do not feel that they lack something in their existence. There is poverty but the poor are happy. There is an upper class but it is not the ruling class. Everyone has light. Light which comes as electricity or from the cracking of logs in the chimney, or even as the soothing flame of a candle, but never as hope. Should it come as hope, it would distort the entire equilibrium which keeps the people unconscious to pain. Hope is the last thing they need, for if they do not know of hope, they will never have a glimpse of despair.
As for the water, it comes from rain, through taps or from pores as waste, much more like in our own world. Except that in this other world, they do not leak through eyes. No... Sadness is the least of worries in this other world because if they had sadness, they would also have joy. And joy is a foe to indiferrence. Of course it can be said that the communist revolution of Cambodia in 1975 by the Khmer Rouge was seeking the same goal, but that would mean the connection of these two worlds. And no one wants these two worlds to be connected. While you might see these insensible beings as being ignorant to what you, from our own world might feel, a part of you must also appreciate the fact that they are less intrigued by doubt. Do you like doubt? I thought not. Me neither.
The people in this adjacent world have a proverb. 'Ignorance is not bliss. Not knowing better is.'
Still I feel pity for them. They do not know the meaning of true fun. Picture a horse coming home from a long day. He's tired. The first thing everyone does when they're tired is to take off their shoes. You feel the cold floor sending waves through your feet to your spinal cord then to your brain. Doesn't it feel great? Well the horse as for him cannot take his shoes off because people nail horses' shoes. That might seem sad to you if you're a sad person yourself or it might seem very funny if you can identify with that sort of humour. To our other worldly friends it would just seem normal. The problem is that we of this world don't think about random funny things and laugh about them. We have to wait for people to translate and picture it to us in a funny way and then laugh. This means that both worlds are missing something but they don't know what. It's like these two worlds are intertwined in a way that they are connected but never touch the other.
As I woke up from this other world many thoughts disturbed my serenity. Was it the person knocking on my door who woke me up? Or was it too much for my brain to take? Well, I guess I should get along with my day then. But don't worry, I'll see you in your sleep.
